Summer houses compared: modern and classic designs with prices

A summer house is a room you use from April to October: a reading spot, a place for the kids, somewhere to sit when it rains. Pick the size by what goes inside, not by the garden.

Prices and ratings from Tuin.co.uk when we checked (October 2026), cheapest first. Delivery and base not included. Affiliate links, how that works. We have not built these ourselves.

What to look for

  • Allow 60cm around the building for treating the walls and clearing gutters.
  • Pent roof models sit lower, which helps near a fence or under the 2.5m planning limit.
  • Thicker logs (28mm and up) feel solid and keep a little warmth after sunset.
  • Untreated timber needs a coat of preserver within a few weeks of building.
